Specifications Workshop
OGF-Europe Backs Specifications Workshop
OGF-Europe is strongly committed to supporting the on-going work of the GIN Group within OGF and to helping GIN evolve into a result-driven group to accelerate standardisation adoption. A recent Workshop dedicated to current and emerging specifications (BES; JSDL; and GLUE) brought together experts from three major European Grid middleware stacks: ARC, gLite and UNICORE for the very first time. The main driver behind the Workshop was to:
• Evaluate end to end job submission using OGF specifications.
• Identify what is missing in the current standard specifications.
• Make recommendations for solutions bringing true production-level interoperability between these middleware stack closer to reality.
“The workshop was very productive, as developers were driven by a common goal that is now possible thanks to emerging OGF standards”.
Balazs Konya, Lund University
An analysis of existing implementations pinpointed the need for a new profile that takes into account the vast experience of production deployment of the three main middleware stacks. The GIN community group within OGF is seen as a good starting point for this profile, meaning that the first steps towards enhancing the new GIN production profile, which will also include GLUE, could be taken.
Next Steps were made at the GIN session at OGF24, 15-19 Sept ’08 in Singapore.
