SOI -Telecommunications

Purpose

There is a strong movement in EU telecoms markets with a move to network-based services to supplement revenue growth in the IP based communications markets now established. All leading telecommunications suppliers, fixed or mobile, are providing Broadband, Wireless, Wireline and Mobile services. For business the battlefield is in the area of value added networks, building on the development of 21st Century Network capabilities to provide points of presence; virtual private networking and data centre infrastructure outsourcing capabilities. The next area of interest lies in service provision and this CoS is aimed at this area. This is of interest region-wide and is also a key area of opportunity for standards work which has been done in OGF, e.g. reference architectures, to be promoted to a new audience.

Who should attend?

This event is aimed at leading operators to learn more about the standards based approach of OGF in this area potentially including a look at Cloud Computing.

This event is targeted at academics and industrial organisations interested in the service oriented infrastructure which will lie at the heart of the Internet of the Future. This event should be of interest to prospective service providers as well.

Expected Outcomes

One of the principle objectives of this event is to increase OGF ties with the Telecommunications sector and reinvigorate the OGF Telco WG.
